"Placopecten Magellanicus" is the species caught in the Northwest Atlantic, both in the U.S. and in Canada. The annual catch from 300 permitted scallop vessels is 55-60 mm lbs of scallop meat from a dredge-based fishery. Included in this total is a 400 lb/day permitted catch from 200-300 small day boats. The fishing year begins on March 1st and is strictly regulated by the U.S. Government.
Seatrade is a leader in the harvesting and processing of U.S. sea scallops and sells approximately 5000 mt of fresh and frozen scallops annually. In addition to our domestic distribution, we also supply the European and Asian markets with fresh and frozen scallops.
